If you’re passionate about building community, the MCR Committee is for you!

We encourage members to participate in the MCR and help us in any way possible, as the MCR is entirely student-run for the benefit of all graduates. We especially encourage members to take on Committee positions, whether through holding interim posts or through official elections.

Even if you’re only at Oxford for one year, you can still run for almost all committee roles and contribute to graduate life at St Anne’s. Aside from doing truly meaningful community work, there are also many benefits for Committee members within the College.

Interim Positions

We welcome volunteers to fill vacancies on an interim basis before elections. In fact, this is the best way to get a taste of working on the Committee. All new members are supported by the President and current/past Committee members in starting and throughout their role.

Visit our current committee list to see any available vacancies and email president@st-annes-mcr.org if you’re interested in taking on an interim role.

Biannual Elections

The MCR Committee holds elections for most positions during the middle of Michaelmas term, in early November, except for the President and Treasurer roles. These roles are elected at the end of Trinity term, in early June.

Hustings, where candidates introduce or nominate themselves for Committee positions, take place the day before voting for every election. Voting takes place online and is run by the Oxford SU (Oxford University Student Union). Invitations and the call for nominations will be sent out by the Secretary in advance of each election.

Please find the full regulations in our Constitution.

Eligibility

Current MCR members and associate members are eligible to run for MCR posts, provided that:

  • They submit a candidate manifesto detailing their plans
  • Their nomination is seconded by another MCR member or associate member
  • Only female members of the MCR may stand for the post of Women’s Officer
  • Only ethnic minority (EM) members of the MCR may stand for the posts of EM Officer
  • Associate members of the MCR may not stand for executive posts (President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer)
  • Applications for President and Treasurer posts: must only be carried out by returning, non-associate, MCR members for the following academic year

Committee Benefits

The College appreciates the effort that volunteer committee members bring to the MCR. As a thank-you for your work, Committee members are eligible for:

  • Committee lunches, paid for by College, every other week.
  • Priority, free-or-reduced access to MCR/JCR events (even outside of Anne’s!)
  • Invitations to Upper Common Room Lunch with the Principal and Senior Officers of the College.
  • And more… This is something the President is continually fighting for!

Aside from these benefits, there are intangible but nonetheless valuable leadership and organizational skills that being on the committee brings. You will also join a group of students dedicated to the community and make lots of meaningful friendships along the way.

Plus, what’s better than getting your favorite snacks, drinks, and food for MCR events 🙂
