Our lovely Social Secretaries (social@st-annes-mcr.org.uk) organize several events each term, which involve exchanges with other colleges and larger parties for MCR members. Make sure to stay connected with us check our latest term card for updated information!

Social Events at St Anne’s

Below are a sample of our regular events:

Exchange Dinners

2-4x per term

Over the course of each term, the MCR organizes three exchange dinners where we invite another MCR to a formal hall at St. Anne’s and we visit their college for one of their formal dinners. We serve sparkling wine in the EPH common room prior to going to dinner and retire there for port after dinner. There are usually 10-15 places for MCR members at these dinners and guests are unfortunately not permitted.

MCR Dinners

Upper Common Room (UCR)

These dinners are a luxurious affair. About 25 students gather and dine in the Upper Common Room (UCR) – usually reserved for fellows. Dinner involves pre-dinner sparkling wine or orange juice in the Lower Common Room (LCR), a 3-course meal with a different wine for each course, and chocolates and coffee after dinner.

Murder Mystery Dinners

Once a term, Upper Common Room (UCR)

Each term, the MCR organizes a whole evening, including a 3-course meal and various drinks, dedicated to one question: who’s the murderer?! You’ll be assigned a role beforehand, you will dress up accordingly, act as your character and receive new hints throughout the evening. At the end, you must decide who the murderer is. This decision is usually discussed extensively afterwards in the college bar.

Pub Crawls and College Bar Crawls

A few times a term and in Fresher’s Week

A few times a year, the MCR organizes a pub or college bar crawl, during which we visit several pubs or colleges in one evening.

Wine and Cheese

Tastings a few times a term, MCR

A few times per term, the MCR organizes one of Oxford’s typical Wine and Cheese nights. In the past, we’ve also held a number of other “tastings” events including beer, chocolate and gin tastings.

BOPs*

(*Big Open Parties) Twice a term at Anne’s and more!

BOPs are themed parties with cheap drinks hosted by various colleges. One is organized in the MCR each term, and one is a joint MEGABop with the JCR where we clear out the dining hall as a dance floor – a St Anne’s specialty! Various other colleges may also invite us to their BOPs at a discounted price (but Anne’s are the best!).
