John Blattler, Policy Analyst with the Alberta Ministry of Education, discusses the unique challenges facing policy makers as they struggle to resolve problems and seize opportunities in the rapidly changing field of public education. As part of this discussion, John will describe the basic framework for policy development that most civil services around the world employ and will explain its benefits and limitations. John will also highlight the converging impacts of economic globalization, technology, multiculturalism and new pedagogies upon public education as struggles to to create citizens who are both democratically engaged and economically resilient. Throughout this conversation, John will touch upon the unique characteristics of public education in Canada and what lessons they might offer to the UK.
John Blattler holds a Masters in Public Policy Administration and a Masters in English Literature from the University of Toronto as well as Bachelor of Education and a joint Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Classics from the University of British Columbia.
